I was definitely mesmerized by the strange cyber-punk world of Ghost in the Shell, and fell in love in with the Major, a damn sexy cyborg! Unfortunately the sequel didn't have the strength of the first film, and what could have been a franchise came to a halt.<br /><br />But there is hope for a revival through a live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. As of 2008, DreamWorks acquired indeed the rights to produce a live-action film adaptation of the original manga with Steven Spielberg. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are confirmed producers. I mean, there's just no other property quite like it. It could actually be three two-hour movies, which is what I would vote for, but it's the seminal cyberpunk text as something like Neuromancer.
